New Year

I'm usually not one for resolutions, but at this moment I'm feeling particularly put together. I'm also in the mood to put myself together more. I've realized that I need to start being more productive, and the opportunist in me sees this time of the year as the best time to begin to reorganize my life. Without further rambling, here are my 2015 projects:

1. Do Homework Right After School
I'm really bad at knocking my homework out of the way. I get home around 3:30 and spend most of my time fiddling around on Netflix/my phone/other nonproductive areas. Then around 9:30 at night I begin crying tears into my US history book because I realize I cannot finish all this homework laid before me. This coming year I want to begin working on my homework for at the least the first hour that I'm home. Most days it will take me longer than that hour to finish my homework, but at least I'll already have put a good dent into it.

2. Finish My First Book
I've been writing my current book for a really really really long time (I'd say how long but it's somewhat embarrassing). I've never actually fully finished a book come to think of it. There are a solid 54 unfinished drafts/manuscripts/novels sitting on my google drive account (this is just an estimate), but none have ever been finished. One of these days I need to put on my big girl underwear and complete one of these suckers and that time might as well be now.

3. Post Five Times a Month
I realize this is a fairly low post count, but I'm trying to keep things doable here. Looking back on last year, there were six months where I posted less than five times which is somewhat sad and depressing and other words with disappointing connotations.

4. Read More (and Own More Books)
I have a desperate need to grow my own personal library and check a lot of books off my to-read list. I also want to take up a new adventure of Goodwilling/thrift shopping books. If a book is popular I'll probably just rely on my public library or a friend, but nothing is more fun than going into Goodwill and picking up two or three random books that look interesting. At fifty cents per book, you really can't go wrong.

I feel like I should have more to say or to accomplish, but I don't want to overwhelm myself (I am only 17 years old). Fingers crossed for the New Year, and may your 2015 be filled with more happiness than ever before.

Have a fabulous New Year.

  1. "Own more books" That should be on my resolution list as well. I'm such a bookworm, but when it comes to actually having my own copies of them... *embarrassed* but there's nothing wrong with going to the library! ;)

I'm also writing my own novel and it is so frustrating to go through the process of editing. When you get the first draft done, you're so proud, and then... well... ^^

    Happy New Year!

    1. I too am an avid advocate of just going to the library haha! My wallet can't afford to buy every book I want to read let's be real. I once read online that once you finish your first draft you should put the manuscript in a drawer for three months and then take it out and revise the entire thing. I can only imagine how daunting it must be, but hopefully one day I will get there!

  2. I used to start my homework in school sometimes just so that I can do all unproductive fun things at home :P
Other times I never completed it :P
    You're writing a novel that's so cool :D
All the best with your resolutions,Happy New Year!

    1. I have a friend who does 95% of her homework during school so she could go home and watch netflix the rest of the day. I'm also going to try and do that as well haha. Happy New Year to you as well!

  3. Happy New Year! You should really do your novel! 54 drafts is A LOT D: I'd love to read it whenever you're done! ^^

    1. I would say 54 drafts is somewhat of an over exaggeration, but I do have multiple unfinished drafts sitting around on my computer haha. I will definitely be posting some of whatever novel I end up finishing though. Thanks for reading (as always)! :D

  4. Happy New Year :)
Will you please tell us more about the novel you're writing? I'm writing too, but I get so lonely sometimes. It'd be great to have a blog buddy who's also writing on a big project :)
Don't own too many books by the end of the year, take that from a person with over 250 books. I can barely walk into my room without knocking a pile of books over XD

    1. I would love to share whatever I am writing (hopefully in a blog post in the the near future). I also have a feeling I too will probably end up owning waaay too many books after this year, but I can't say that's the worst problem to ever have haha! :)

  5. I understand your first resolution; that is kind of what happens to me, only slightly differently. Usually at around six or seven I have to go out to either theater or whatever activity has caught my gaze during that particular period. Sometimes I get my homework done, but other days, I FORGET THAT ONE MAJOR ASSIGNMENT. I'm trying real hard to stay organized. And about your unfinished manuscripts... I feel ya. A lot of my drafts are missing the last chapter, but I sit there thinking, "Nah, too lazy/busy to finish." And that gets me nowhere. Have a happy 2015! I hope you reach those goals!

    xoxo Morning

    1. I usually tell myself I will simply finish my homework after soccer/dance/whatever the activity may be, but then I find I am waay too tired to do it once I get home. Organization is also something I should probably get around to improving at too haha. Thanks for stopping by! :D

  6. You should post excerpts from a few of those drafts! Not only would the feedback help you to finish a book, it would let you avoid writing 5 new posts every month, haha :)

I'm also trying to start my homework earlier. The recommended homework/study time for my year is 4 hours (we are expected to do homework and also revise last year's, but I doubt anyone has time with so much homework!), which really cuts into my main hobby, complaining about how much homework I have.

Good luck with your resolutions :)

    1. Haha, I too would say my main hobby is complaining about how much homework I have. Depending on the night I usually have two and a half to three hours of homework (which all of a sudden looks very good compared to your four), but I usually spend the hour before that complaining to my friend about all the homework I have while watching a re-run of Law and Order for the one thousandth time.

I'm also looking into sharing parts of my book, but first I have to overcome my fear of sharing such a thing. It's a weird fear to have considering the ultimate goal is to have it accesible to basically anyone with a Target or bookstore within their range, but one day I will get over this.

      Thanks for stopping by! :)
